I'm still surprised that old school Surrealism (in the style of Dali, Magritte, etc) didn't come back in a big way in the "serious" art world in the '60s.  Seemed like the perfect time for it.  A lot of the very good artists of the day seemed to go a more commercial route and started designing posters, album covers and other stuff that, at the time, the art world might not have looked at as "ART" (heavenly music, heads bowed in reverence).  More power to them.

Klarwein's landscapes are pretty awesome.  Some of them remind me of the melancholy and emptiness of de Chirico.
